I was working yesterday and I overheard a manager yelling at a fellow employee. This manager used inappropriate and unprofessional language towards the associate. It made me wonder why he would react in such a manner at work. For me, when a manager cusses and acts unprofessionally towards another associate, I lose respect for him. As a manager, I make it my goal to gain respect from everyone. After all people will work harder for a boss they respect.
I completely agree, it is very unprofessional to yell at someone at work. It is most unprofessional to use curse words in that act also. I would add it is disrespectful and abusive even because the manager knows they are in a position of power. I have worked with high tempered people and one manager that displayed this behavior for just over a couple of months... it did play significantly in my decision to leave the company which I had only worked at for about 4 months. I will not work for anyone that displays that behavior.
ReplyDeleteI also had the pleasure to work for an educational organization in San Antonio for over three years and I have to say in three years, I only once heard a manager raise his voice but not yell at and berate an employee. It was the most tension I had seen there and it ended very quickly. I never heard anyone use unprofessional language and even though sometimes things were stressful or tiresome the employees made it a point to be professional. Most everyone employed there had a Bachelors Degree and many were PhD’s. I imagine the level of education plays a big part in this subject.
