International Communication

After graduation I will be traveling to Europe for a few weeks, so I decided to looks for tips on communicating to use while I am there. I don't know if I should attempt to modify my accent though. I feel like it would be horrible to attempt and I'm sure that I would butcher it as well.

  1. Modifying one's first language accent comes more naturally than you might imagine, especially if you already know something about the host language. I tend to modify even sentence structure at times in order to match the other language as though I were translating directly from that language to English.
Positions of adjectives and verbs can confuse or clarify meaning depending upon the other person's mother tongue!

  2. I believe that after being relocated your voice would naturally adapt to your environment. You're gonna be new to the area any way, meaning you're gonna stand out regardless, a lack of accent won't be too bad. It will develop over time.

  3. I think if you change it, it would come across strange. plus given you are from Texas ive heard that Europeans love Texans and almost separate us from the rest of the country, use it to your advantage.
